Birthday Cards for Dogs
The West is known for its love of animals and fondness for their family pets. The pet gift industry is huge with pet pillows, pet beds, bejeweled cat and dog collars and of course designer dog clothes! But what about greeting cards for dogs?
There is already a market apparently for birthday cards from the dog, which is a lovely idea.
Here are my designs for a card from your dog!
I know I myself always include the cat and dogs names on any cards I send. However having done a quick search on the Internet there seems to be an absence of greeting cards for pets. Perhaps with good reason!
However, given how much pet lovers enjoy anthropomorphizing their dogs I am surprised this market hasnt been accommodated.
As pointless as it might seem to buy cards for dogs, I know my children for one would be all in favour of buying our dog a card for his birthday. For his last birthday I had to make the dog a birthday cake and throw him a rather basic party. I did so for one reason only and that was to give pleasure to my children who thought it very important to celebrate Freds (our dog) birthday in the same manner we celebrate theirs! So children at least would enjoy giving their pet dog a birthday card.
As an experiment I have designed a single birthday card for Dogs.
The cartoon on the greeting card for dogs features a dog dressed in a ballet dress with the words The X-Factor has a lot to answer for! above it. I used a cartoon I myself drew for this amusing gag cartoon card.
In the meantime, what do you think? Would you buy your dog a birthday card and if so what type of card might you buy?
Thank you cards from Dogs
In addition to wacky birthday cards from the dog, perhaps more appropriate is thank you cards from dogs whove been cared for by others while their real owner is away. When my pets are taken care of I usually buy the carer a gift (chocolates usually) but a nice thank you card from the cat or dog would be a lovely gesture.
Heres an idea I had for a simple thank you card from the dog.
Get Well Soon Cards for Dogs
It was suggested to me that dog owners who have a dog who is unwell or recovering from a serious operation might appreciate a light hearted get well soon card for their dog. So Ive designed one mainly to cheer up the owners but addressed to the dog.
Sympathy Card for loss of a Dog
This card would be for the owner of a Dog which had recently died.
Cards for Dogs is a simple enough idea, nothing too fancy. Id be grateful your thoughts on cards for and from dogs and perhaps other pets too.

UPDATE: For cat lovers a couple of birthday cards from your cat!

Top-level comments on this article: (6 total)I must admit, Leah, the idea is close to a breakthrough for a new market. We own a dog, and the kids do give Mattie (our dog) a "real" birthday celebration but so far none of them has asked for a card yet. But I wouldn't rule it out. You may be on to something here; the response will tell. ~mogama~Thanks Mogama, perhaps I should ensure all my cards appeal to kids then more than grown up gags and what not. :)
Wow, Leah, having seen those dog cards I don't see why I wouldn't buy a birthday card for our kids' dog. This could be your ticket to the sweet and lucrative. You certainly have the creative skill it takes to pull it off. I wish you success with those dog b-cards. Seriously. ~mogama~Thanks Mogama, I'm going to try to create some more professional looking ones, my little dog face I feel is on the right lines. Cartoon dogs that appeal to kids ;)
Well, I don't have a dog, but if I did I probably wouldn't buy him a card, unless it was made of doggy treat stuff- he'd probably just try to eat it- :) Always- EllaHi EllaSomeone mentioned edible dog cards to me, not sure what they were made of though.
I'm am not certain that the Dog(s) would appreciate the card... But I am rather certain that the owners will!Well done!DannyThanks Danny, I'll be doing cat cards soon, but not for the cat, perhaps thank you cards and sympathy cards only.
Absolutely love the idea! Used to have a dog-miss her terribly-but now I have a cat who I love just as much. I don't kow if I, myself, would send my pet a card but would probably send others a card, like the get well or sorry about your loss. I do know that lots of people would send cards to their pets.
We don't get cards for our pets. We have put everyone's name on the cards with ours though or drawn stick figures. We have so many animals when you consider all of them. At Christmas, our dogs get a present and get to unwrap them. Your cards are totally cute! For a novelty, I could see me do something with a card though.
