"Meanwhile, there was anger directed at Barack Obama today after it
emerged the US President will stage a lavish reception for ex-IRA chief
Martin McGuinness on St Patrick's Day.
Mr Obama also plans to
hold two hours of talks with Mr McGuinness - just days after he was
accused of snubbing Gordon Brown during the PM's visit to Washington.
The President's move has reportedly infuriated Downing Street and diplomats are understood to be fuming.
Mr
Obama refused to hold a joint press conference with Mr Brown during his
recent trip to the US, granting him just half an hour of one-on-one
discussions at the White House.
Mr McGuinness flies to America tomorrow."
This is after the news broke that on the 8th March 'The Real IRA' claimed responsibility for the drive-by
shooting of two British soldiers outside Ulster
barracks.
"In a coded message, the Antrim Brigade of the dissident
Republican group said that they were behind Saturday's executions which
threaten to derail the peace process.
And in a chilling development, leaders claimed it would be just the first in a new terror campaign in Northern Ireland."
The hypocrisy in politics upsets me greatly.
We (the British) sympathised and shared the shock, horror and pain of 9/11 with the American people. I thought we were all in agreement that terrorism is wrong regardless of the justification put forth by the terrorists.
Are the IRA terrorists?

"The IRA was removed from the U.S. State Department's official list of
terrorist organizations in 2000, but for decades, beginning in the late
1960s, it was considered one of the most dangerous terrorist
organizations in the world.
In July 2002, on the 30th anniversary of
the 1972 "Bloody Friday" bombings, the IRA startled its sympathizers
and enemies alike by offering "sincere apologies and condolences" to
the families of its civilian victims. The IRA no longer describes
itself as an armed force and officially ended its armed campaign to
reunify Ireland in July 2005.
An independent report stated that the IRA has decommissioned its weapons. This announcement
was greeted with praise and hope by both the British and Irish
governments. However, the IRA and its political wing still oppose what
it calls an illegal foreign occupation of its country. Meanwhile, two IRA splinter groups Real IRA and Continuity IRA, still practice terrorism and remain on the State Department's terrorist group list as recently as 2007."
Barack Obama's credibility just took a nose dive in my opinion and I believe that many British people will share that opinion.
Creative, nothing surprises me and I do think many who voted for him are starting to consider much of what he is doing or not in a different light. You sahll know them by their works the key.I agree, actions speak louder than words, thank you for your comment.
Hi CB, I'm, with you on this one. I usually keep my politcal opinions aside, but I must say, I am not surprised to hear this news. Thanks for a well-written piece.Blessings to you! TeresaThank you Teresa, it makes you wonder where this is all going doesn't it?I think we in for some interesting times. I think in many ways Obama will bring "unity" and "peace", but I am afraid in many ways, it will be at too high a cost. It is my opinion that too many people are turning a blind eye to the poor reputations and crimes of many of his right hand men and women that he chose to represent with him. oops, may have said too much.Peace and smiles,TeresaHe made a comment recently too about his bowling? Said it was like watching the 'special olympics' these don't sound like the words of an enlightened man.
Good, interesting article…thanks for bringing forth your observation and analysis of the situation—enlightening information for me—thanks!
Thank you for commenting
Hey, most folks, according to exit polls on election day, had no idea what Obamas policies were. His "reaching out" to terrorists and terrorist supporting nations like Iran is sickening. 2012 cannot get here quick enough.I remember seeing the outpouring of sympathy from the British people after 9/11. It was moving and much appreciated from this patriot.Great article.Thank you Ken, it is I believe very wrong.
Great article!Glad to see that our British compatriots are beginning to see the light! Thanks for sharing this from the other side of the ocean.Nancy
