If you have a blog and would like the world to know about it, you can wait patiently until Google search sends visitors your way or you can speed up the process by doing some self promotion. This can be time consuming but if you want readers today as oppose to next month, then getting busy with the following will help your blog gain exposure quickly.
Before you start promoting your blog, ensure that your blog has good quality content, updated at least weekly. Ensure the blog is user friendly, keeping the clutter to a minimum. Make sure the blog posts are easy to find and not at the bottom of the site, past a lot of Ads and links to other sites. Users will click straight in and out of blogs where the content cannot be found quickly.
When you are happy with the look and tone of your blog, you can begin promoting it.
When you are happy with the look and tone of your blog, you can begin promoting it.
- Add your blog URL to Google and other free search engines.
- Burn a feed for your blog with a site like feedburner.com
- Feedburner have many free tools that you can use to promote your blog content and enable people to subscribe.
- Join blogger communities, such as mybloglog.com and make good use of the many free blog promotion tools that they have on offer. Your blog can get good exposure on sites like this if you actively join other bloggers communities and make 'friends'.You can send other members messages and update them on your content.
- Visit the blogs of authors writing about similar things to you and leave comments. Do not leave spammy links though and always try to respond to the writers posts appropriately. Make sure that when leaving the comment, you leave your blog URL in the appropriate place.
- Join forums which discuss the subject you blog about and if allowed have your blog URL in your signature and contribute regularly to forum discussions. The more genuine helpful advice you give on these forums, the more likely people will be to follow your signature URL back to your blogsite.
- Write guest blogs for other bloggers. Quite often a blogger will ask for other bloggers to contribute a blog post for their blog. They will usually include your name and blog url in the post, so people know you are the author and where to find you.
- Join article sites and blog communities where you can write blogs or articles and gain a wider audience due to the larger sites popularity with other Internet users and Google. Google is more likely to point readers towards a top article site like Searchwarp than a brand new blog with minimum content.

Hiya CB, I haven't forgot about one of my favorite writers, and I found this article to be informative. But I have to be really honest with you...keep in mind that I am 62 years old....I don't know what a blog is? lol, I know it sounds funny, but I really don't. What is the purpose of it? I have a business (All Season Karaoke and DJ), do you promote your business in a blog? I noticed you used writers communities, what does it do there? I have allot of questions, but I need to put on the dunce cap when it comes to blogging, I have heard the term, I even belong to myspace, and it says I have a blog on there....but where? lol! I don't understand them, and for some reason, I feel like I am missing out. (sigh)..."You can tell yer gettin' old, when ya don't know what a blog is".....lol. Your fan, and friend in pen.....Gary....
Hi GaryI have two articles (on page 3 towards bottom) called 'what is a blog' and 'how to create a blog'These should answer your questions meanwhile the tips above apply equally to promoting your website. In your case, you should look for bloggers in your area. You can do this on My Space. On my space on your home page there is a menu which says 'manage blog' here you can 'add a blog'. You simply write and publish and anyone (unless you restrict readers via your blog settings) can read it.
Hi,Thanks nice review..what I generally use most to promote is my blog is article writing, social bookmarking and forums.Getting more backlinks means you will get better ranking in google.
Thanks I found this very helpful and have followed your advice for my blogThat's great Kirstie, good luck with your blog!
