I bought my first upright Dyson vacuum back in 1999, a Dyson DC07. It was a real luxury purchase back then as my income wasn't very high but I was desperate for something to tackle the mass of cat hair that my long haired Maine Coon used to leave around place. No ordinary vacuum could handle the task and so I bought a Dyson upright DC07 and I never looked back. As it says in the title Dyson, sure do suck!

The suction on Dyson vaccs is great and the fact that you don't need to change a dust bag and all the bits easily come apart and go back together again make it a very 'easy' vacuum to use. The only draw back is the weight and the limitations re doing stairs.

This is not a light vacuum and weighs in at nearly 20pounds fully assembled. It has a long extension hose which is great for doing stairs but it's a problem when your hose isn't quite long enough to do them all with the base at the bottom level. The weight can also make it a bit of a task lifting the vacuum up and down the stairs to do different levels. As a result my upstairs rooms don't get the attention they quite deserve often enough!

I have recently tried a cylinder vacuum, which is smaller and neater. I don't like this model at all compared to the upright Dyson DC07 vacuums. It does have a lot of good features such as different attachments, wheels easily around the floor and a retractable cable but it doesn't quite comb the pile the way an upright Dyson vacuum does.

Dyson uprights do a very favorable job on hard floors and carpet, though on small rugs that it doesn't disappear into your vacuum! The suction is so powerful any loose edges risk being pulled.

Meanwhile if you have allergies you may find the fact that the Dyson DC07 uses HEPA filters favorable. These filter out microscopic particles and allergens that regular filtration systems might miss.

All in all a good vacuum and I am now on my third!
